Brazil’s Supreme Court has lifted the ban on the social media platform X, allowing it to resume operations after more than a month of suspension. The ban was initially imposed due to the platform’s non-compliance with court rulings.
On Tuesday, Judge Alexandre de Moraes announced the lifting of the ban following X’s payment of approximately 28.6 million reals (around $5.17 million) in fines to the Brazilian government, according to local media reports cited by Xinhua.

In his ruling, Moraes stated, “I hereby declare the suspension lifted and authorize the immediate resumption of X Brasil Internet Ltd.’s activities within the national territory.” He also instructed the National Telecommunications Agency to implement the decision and report back to the Supreme Court within 24 hours.
X was banned on August 30 after it refused to appoint a legal representative in Brazil and failed to pay fines for ignoring a court order. Since then, the platform has appointed a legal representative and complied with a separate court order to block the accounts of individuals investigated for inciting a coup in Brazil.
