On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed AustralianSuper’s decision to invest an additional AU$500 million in India’s National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), saying the move demonstrated growing international confidence in the country’s economic progress and reform agenda.
With the latest investment, Australia’s largest pension fund will increase its total exposure to India across infrastructure, equities and private markets to AU$3.3 billion.
In a post on X, PM Modi said the new investment highlighted the opportunities India’s expanding economy offers global investors and reflected confidence in the country’s long-term growth trajectory.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the Australia-India Annual Leaders’ Summit in Melbourne, where AustralianSuper Chief Executive Paul Schroder was scheduled to participate.
The latest commitment builds on the fund’s first investment of AU$240 million in the NIIF in 2019, which AustralianSuper has described as one of its strongest-performing infrastructure investments.
AustralianSuper Chief Investment Officer Shaun Manuell said the fund’s positive experience with the NIIF had encouraged it to make a second investment. He further noted that the partnership had shown the benefits of combining long-term capital with stable policies, trusted institutions and strong collaboration.
Manuell said India’s sustained economic growth, expanding middle class and policy reforms had made the country an attractive destination for institutional investors. He further added that these factors continued to support AustralianSuper’s confidence in generating long-term returns through investments in India.
The Government of India established the NIIF in 2015 to attract long-term institutional investment into the country’s infrastructure sector.
Before the latest announcement, AustralianSuper had already invested around AU$2.8 billion in India across infrastructure, equities and private markets.
