General Electric (GE) Aerospace have made a historic announcement on Thursday which has become a matter of excitement in India. GE Aerospace announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). They are together going to produce fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.
The deals happens as PM Modi visits US
Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi is on his state visit to US these days. Also, he was to address the joint session of Congress during his visit. Also, he celebrated Yoga Day over there in the UN headquarters. This deal has come amidst all this and is very much a symbol of strengthening relations between US and India.
What’s the deal with GE Aerospace?
The agreement include the joint production of GE Aerospace’s F414 engines in India says GE Aerospace. While the production happens, GE Aerospace continues to work with the US government to receive the necessary export authorization for this.
The Light Combat Aircraft Mk2 programme of the Indian Air Force is included in the endeavor. GE Aerospace, based in the US, is a significant supplier of jet engines, parts, and systems for both commercial and military aircraft.
H Lawrence Culp, Jr, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of GE and CEO of GE Aerospace said, “This is a historic agreement made possible by our longstanding partnership with India and HAL.”
“We are proud to play a role in advancing President Biden and Prime Minister Modi’s vision of closer coordination between the two nations. Our F414 engines are unmatched and will offer important economic and national security benefits for both countries as we help our customers produce the highest quality engines to meet the needs of their military fleet,” Lawrence added. This lead is going to help the two nations come closer and emerge stronger.
