Officials Who Died In the Helicopter Crash
A large-scale search and rescue operation for the Iranian President and others came to an end as their bodies were sent to Tabriz Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province.
The operation of transferring the bodies of Iranian officials, including president Raisi and Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, to the downstream areas from the crash site concluded.
Despite the severe burn, all the occupants have been identified.
There were 9 people on board the helicopter including president Raisi, and the foreign minister Amir-Abdollahian. The helicopter went missing in the mountains of northwestern Iran.
The Iranian President and other officials were returning from a visit to Azerbaijan when their helicopter succumbed to the bad weather condition.
In an urgent meeting called by the Iranian government following the death of President Raisi, his chair was left vacant and draped in a black sash in his memory.
As per the IANS, a senior Imam who led Friday prayer in the city of Tabriz was also on the aircraft. He was alive for almost an hour and was able to contact the president’s office before succumbing to injuries during the crash.
The 63-year-old Raisi was the eighth president of Iran and was to run for re-election the next year.
Global leaders expressed despair over the death of Iranian President Raisi including 8 others in a helicopter crash.
“Raisi was a ‘true friend’ to Russia and was admired both at home and abroad,” President Putin in a message to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Many other world leaders from the president of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, European Council President Charles Michel to Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed their condolence over this Deadly accident.
