The Jain Centre of British Columbia in Surrey, Canada, celebrated its 9th Pratishtha Anniversary with a vibrant ceremony attended by the renowned Jain spiritual leader and world peace ambassador Acharya Dr Lokesh Muniji, Consul General Masakui Rungsang, Honarable Raj Chauhan, Speaker of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly, and a large gathering of devotees and members of the Indian diaspora.

Jainism’s Timeless Relevance

Acharya Lokeshji, Founder of Ahimsa Vishwa Bharati and the World Peace Centre, underscored the deep and scientific roots of Jainism, explaining that it is based on the teachings of all Tirthankaras, including Lord Rishabh and Lord Mahavira.

He emphasised that Jain philosophy remains profoundly relevant in today’s world, offering practical solutions to contemporary global challenges through its principles of non-violence (ahimsa) and anekantavada (the doctrine of manifold aspects).

Acharya Lokeshji highlighted that the teachings of Lord Mahavira offer the path to lasting peace, harmony, and mutual understanding, especially in light of the current state of conflict and violence worldwide.

He urged that adopting these values is essential to resolving the widespread unrest and discord faced by societies globally.

India-Canada Cooperation for Peace & Harmony

Acharya Lokeshji further expressed his hope and belief that India and Canada, united by shared values and cultural ties, could collaborate effectively to promote the welfare of society and humanity at large.

He stressed that the ancient Indian culture and Jain teachings could revitalise the global spirit of peace and harmony, inspiring new energy for cooperation and goodwill between nations.

Consul General Masakui Rungsang, addressing the gathering, praised the enduring wisdom and profound knowledge of India’s ancient traditions.

He encouraged the Indian diaspora to actively preserve, promote, and share these invaluable cultural values and teachings, which form the very core of India’s rich heritage.

The Consul General urged everyone present to contribute collectively to spreading these ideals of peace, tolerance, and non-violence in their communities and beyond, reinforcing the significance of cultural identity as a foundation for global harmony.

During the celebrations, Mr Vijay Jain, President of the Jain Centre of British Columbia, presented Consul General Masakui Rungsang with a special coffee table book titled Ambassador of Peace, published by Ahimsa Vishwa Bharati.

The book honours the life and teachings of Acharya Lokeshji and serves as a testament to his role as a global advocate of peace.

This event marks a vital cultural milestone for the Indian diaspora in Canada. It strengthens the friendship and shared values between the two nations. It also reinforces Jainism’s timeless message as a beacon of peace in the modern world.
