Woman Horrified as Cockroach Found in Zomato Order; Company Issues Swift Response

The disturbing trend of discovering insects and even dead animals in restaurant-ordered food is gaining traction on various social media platforms, shedding light on a growing concern within the food service industry. In a recent case, a woman took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her unsettling experience of finding a cockroach in her food order, expressing her deep disgust.

Harshita had ordered fried rice from the restaurant “TAPRI BY THE CORNER” via the food delivery platform Zomato. She shared a video revealing the presence of a cockroach in the box and expressed her disappointment, stating, “I ordered chicken fried rice on Zomato from the restaurant ‘TAPRI BY THE CORNER.’ I got a cockroach in my food. Absolutely disgusted with my order! This is completely unacceptable and unhygienic. Need an immediate resolution.” Harshita tagged Zomato, its CEO Deepinder Goyal, and the Department of Consumer Affairs in her post.

Zomato responded promptly, expressing their concern: “That’s really unexpected, Harshitha. We can understand how you must be feeling 🙁 Could you please help us with your registered contact number/Order ID via a private message so that we can look into this immediately?”

In a separate incident in Bengaluru, a man named Dhaval Singh shared his revolting experience of discovering a live snail in a salad he ordered from a local restaurant through the Swiggy food delivery app. He warned other customers on X and shared a video depicting the live snail atop the vegetables in the salad from the local restaurant chain Leon Grill. Mr. Singh expressed his disappointment, stating, “Never ordering from @LeonGrill ever again!” and urged Swiggy to take preventive measures.

The video showed a bowl of salad with a tiny snail resting on the veggies, and the insect was visibly moving. Mr. Singh also mentioned discrepancies in his drink order in the comments. Despite filing a complaint, he claimed that Swiggy initially provided only a partial refund. However, the situation was later rectified as Swiggy refunded the entire purchase amount to Mr. Singh.

These incidents underscore the need for heightened hygiene standards and rigorous quality checks in the food service industry, prompting both customers and delivery platforms to remain vigilant against such unsettling occurrences.
