According to a letter sent by the workers, over 500 OpenAI employees threatened to quit the company on Monday unless every member of the board resigned. Reuters obtained this information. They also announced that they would be joining Microsoft’s new division under former boss Sam Altman.

The letter claims, “The procedure you used to fire Sam Altman and kick Greg Brockman off the board has endangered all of this work and undermined our mission and company.” “It is evident from your behavior that you lacked the necessary skills to manage OpenAI.”
According to a person familiar with the situation, the company’s chief operating officer Brad Lightcap, chief data scientist Ilya Sutskever, and chief technology officer Mira Murati were among those posing a danger. A request for comment from Reuters was not immediately answered by OpenAI. This happened the day after Altman was fired by the corporation. Emmett Shear, a co-founder of Twitch, was named the company’s acting CEO. Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, said earlier today that Altman will be joining the US software company. According to Nadella, Altman and his former coworker Greg Brockman will head a brand-new advanced AI research team at Microsoft.

In addition, Nadella seems to reaffirm that Emmett Shear will be taking over as CEO of OpenAI, expressing that they are “looking forward to getting to know Emmett Shear and OAI’s new leadership team and working with them.”
We are eager to collaborate with Emmett Shear and the new leadership group at OAI. Furthermore, we are thrilled to announce that Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, and associates will be joining Microsoft to head a brand-new advanced AI research team. On X, formerly known as Twitter, Nadella stated, “We look forward to moving quickly to provide them with the resources needed for their success.”
Less than a year has passed since OpenAI stirred up controversy in the generative AI space with the release of ChatGPT, a chatbot that went viral and attracted major investors like Microsoft.

Altman developed an early interest in technology and, at the age of eight, learned how to write and disassemble a Macintosh computer. He chose to leave Stanford University, a prestigious institution, to focus on creating his own smartphone app Loopt, which he eventually became the leader of and moved to OpenAI.
Before leading companies like WorldCoin and Y Combinator, Sam Altman was the CEO of Microsoft-owned OpenAI. After Yishan Wong resigned, Altman also led Reddit for a mere eight days as CEO.
