US Teen Killed Boyfriend ‘Deliberately’, Later Paid Tribute Online

Less than a month after killing her lover and another friend, 19-year-old Mackenzie Shirilla, who was given a life sentence for the killings, paid tribute to her partner on many occasions online.

Guilty of killing

Ms. Shirilla was earlier this week found guilty of four counts of murder in the July 2022 collision that claimed the lives of her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and his friend, Davion Flanagan, 19. She allegedly used marijuana with the group before taking the wheel in Cleveland, Ohio, and ramming the vehicle into a brick wall of a warehouse without attempting to apply the brakes.

According to the site, Mr. Flanagan, who was travelling in the rear, and Mr. Russo, who was in the passenger seat, were both pronounced dead at the spot. Fortunately, Ms. Shirilla survived the collision and was discovered unconscious with her slippers still on the gas pedal.

Russo’s obituary

Weeks after the event, Ms. Shirilla, who was 17 at the time, posted more than a dozen odd tributes to him on his online obituary, saying that he was “the last person to deserve this.” “You had such a perfect life ahead of you,” she wrote on Mr. Russo’s obituary page in August.

She even shared a photo of herself and Mr. Russo smiling at Universal Studios separately. According to the source, she commented, “I miss you nug,” beneath the post. “I still get the impression that you’re about to enter through the door. Your gorgeous smile and laughter are missed. Every day, I sense your energy around me; I just wish it were tangible. You had such a wonderful life ahead of you; God, you are the last person to deserve this. I wish I had explained everything to you. Please be patient while I finish.

Prosecutors, according to People, claimed that Ms. Shirilla had gone on a “mission” to kill Mr. Russo by deliberately driving her car into a wall at 100 mph while her lover was inside. Her lawyer countered that the adolescent had just lost control of the vehicle and wasn’t attempting to kill her passengers. Ms. Shirilla was found guilty of all 12 charges against her, including murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, felonious assault, and narcotics possession, on Monday by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Nancy Margaret Russo. Her conviction, according to the site, entails an automatic life sentence with the potential of release after 15 years.
