Navratri 2023: Shardiya Navratri’s Date, Meaning, And Celebrations, All Details Inside

In India, Shardiya Navratri, also known as Maha Navratri, is widely observed. The nine-day Hindu celebration honors Goddess Durga in her nine manifestations.

This year, Durga Visarjan and Vijaydashami, popularly known as Dussehra, will mark the beginning of Shardiya Navratri on October 15 and its conclusion on October 24, respectively.

Date of Navratri: 2023

Devotees worship the many goddess forms during the course of these nine days, participating in numerous rituals, prayers, and cultural celebrations. Tenth-day celebrations, such as Vijayadashami or Dussehra, commemorate the victory of virtue over evil. It honors Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana.

Significance of Navratri 2023

Since it is believed that during these first nine days, Goddess Durga descends to Earth to be with her devotees, Sharad Navratri has great spiritual significance. In order to represent purity and dedication, many followers abstained from alcoholic beverages and non-vegetarian cuisine during this time. A stringent vegetarian diet is followed by some devotees who undertake ceremonial Navratri fasts, or vrat. Nirjala vrat, a stricter variation, restricts the use of water throughout the day. Please be aware, though, that this degree of fasting is not suggested for young children, the elderly, or pregnant women.
Celebrations

During Navratri, a different manifestation of Goddess Durga is honored each day. Devotees maintain fasts and offer prayers for their families’ welfare.
