Instagram Outage Leaves Users Frustrated Worldwide, Including In India

On Saturday, Instagram, owned by Meta, experienced a widespread outage that disrupted services for users globally, including a significant impact in India.

Thousands of users reported being unable to load Reels and access other features, marking one of the platform’s most significant outages in recent times.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks online service outages, the peak of the issue saw over 6,500 reports from Indian users alone, highlighting widespread frustration.

The outage primarily affected the feed for 58% of users, while 32% reported issues with the app itself, and 10% faced connectivity problems with servers.

Cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai were among those where users encountered difficulties, highlighting the nationwide scope of the disruption.

Social media platforms quickly became the go-to for affected users to express their frustration and seek updates. Many took to Twitter to share their experiences and verify if the outage was widespread or localized.

“Everyone going towards Twitter to check if Instagram is down,” one user tweeted, capturing the collective sentiment of uncertainty during the outage.

Another user expressed concern over their feed’s unusual appearance during the outage, “I thought my Instagram got hacked cuz there’s no way my fyp looks like this. It’s all brain rot usually #instagramdown.”

As users sought answers and vented their frustrations, the outage served as a reminder of the platform’s dependency in daily life and its global reach.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has yet to provide a detailed explanation for the outage or the timeline for full restoration of services.
