In Just Ten Years Since Its Founding, Chandigarh University Has Submitted 2613 Patent Applications

Since its founding, Chandigarh University (CU) has been at the forefront of offering quality education, a robust research ecosystem, and a source of innovation, all of which have helped to find answers to a variety of difficult social challenges.

The dedication of Chandigarh University to delivering high-quality instruction, molding young minds, and inspiring them to make contributions to the fields of research and innovation, which have an impact on a country’s economic well-being and place in the world, motivates it to set and achieve new goals each year.

According to a report for 2021–2022 released by the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs, Trademarks, and Geographical Indications (CGPDTM), Government of India, Chandigarh University recently held the top spot for the highest number of patent applications in the nation among universities and academic institutions. This demonstrates the university’s emphasis on applied research and creates an innovation ecosystem that makes knowledge accessible to the general public and scientific community.

Over the years, Chandigarh University has filed a significant number of patents. In contrast to 2018, when 147 patent applications were submitted, there were 330 in 2019, 468 in 2021, and 750 in 2022. The university has already submitted 599 patent applications for this year (2023). A total of 2613 patent applications have been submitted by the institution to date, and more than 72.79% of these have already been published.
