Garba with swords: This video shows large hearted women playing garba with swords

A video of women doing a distinctive style of “garba” in Gujarat’s Rajkot city has gained traction on social media as the nine-day Navratri festival has already started. In the video, a number of ladies dressed in the traditional “chaniya choli” are seen engaging in “Talwar Ras,” or sword-wielding, while riding on motorcycles, scooters, and jeeps. According to press reports, the unusual garba celebration was held on Tuesday, the third day of Navaratri.

Women on fire…

The Rajvi Palace in Rajkot served as the venue for the event. Women arrived at the location riding Royal Enfield bikes and Land Rovers while brandishing swords and waving them in the air. A pair of women on Honda Activa scooters with their passengers standing on their seats brandishing swords followed this.

Garlands were used to decorate each vehicle. At the conclusion of the film, six additional ladies could be seen riding on the Land Rover with swords in hand while the female driver continued to fire shots at the ground.

Here’s the video

ANI posted the footage for the first time on X (formerly known as Twitter). It has received more than 300,000 views overall. Internet users applauded the women for their performance in the comments section.

Netizens react on Garba video

“This is women empowerment,” wrote one user. “Absolutely love the bullet aspect of the video,” said another.

“Incredible & impressive,” commented a third user. “That’s not just a motorcycle but god damn bullet 350 cc. Hats off,” added another.

The significance of Navratri is that it marks the coming of Goddess Durga. During the auspicious occasion, devotees worship the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga and ask for blessings for their families’ welfare. The traditional dance form “Garba,” which is a symbol of devotion and adoration, is one of the main attractions of Navratri celebrations in the nation.

Gujarat is where the Garba festival first appeared, and people dress lavishly, traditionally, and colorfully to celebrate. Women dress in the colorful “Chaniya choli,” a three-piece outfit that consists of a shirt, skirt, and dupatta. They also dress in heavy jewelry, including as necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Men dress in kafni pajamas with a pagadi on their heads and a Ghagra, a short, circular kurta, above the knees.
