Gautam Adani: ‘Spine Is Both Medical Miracle & Corporate Necessity For Self-Belief’

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani emphasised the significance of the human spine both medically and metaphorically while speaking at the 5th Annual Conference of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery – Asia Pacific (SMISS-AP) held in Mumbai on Friday.

Adani praised the spine as a symbol of physical resilience and as a metaphor for strong leadership and self-belief.

“The spine you mend is the ultimate architecture needed for the resilience of the human body. And just as you restore resilience to our bodies, leadership is about restoring resilience to the organisation,” he said in his keynote address.

Adani applauds healthcare workers’ courage and humanity

Gautam Adani commended doctors for their humanity and unwavering courage, acknowledging their deeper impact on patients’ lives.

“Your humanity restores your patients’ dignity and gives them the strength and courage to stand tall again in the world,” he said.

He further added, “Doctors represent hope. You may be spine doctors to the world, but for your patients, you are something far greater.”

Healing is more than surgery, says Adani

Referring to the emotional and human side of healthcare, Adani shared his admiration for the film ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’, calling it his all-time favourite for its message.

He said that true healing goes far beyond surgery, as healing embodies hope and humanity, echoing the sentiment of compassion that drives effective medical care.

Gautam Adani reflects on his own path to resilience

Drawing a parallel between physical and personal resilience, Adani recalled his early life decisions.

“I made my first bold decision at the age of 16, left for Mumbai without a degree and a job, except with a burning desire to define my path,” he said.

He linked the metaphor of the spine to his journey as an entrepreneur, asserting that self-belief and strength of character form the backbone of leadership.

Gautam Adani concluded by emphasising that the spine serves as a shared metaphor between the medical and corporate worlds.

“Perhaps today, this shared metaphor will remind us that a spine is both a medical miracle and a corporate necessity for self-belief,” he stated.
