Abhay K, an Indian poet and diplomat, has written a Sun Anthem to capture the occasion as ISRO prepares to launch Aditya-L1, its first spacecraft devoted to researching the Sun.
The anthem goes as follows: “Home star, you’re never too far. Lighting up our lives wherever we are. On Moon or Mars, near or far, home star, you’re never too far. Keeping us all from drifting apart in the deep dark galactic bar. Igniting the skies each day in the Orion spur of the Mily Way.”
“Streaming light across the dark space. Primeval god, Universe’s glowing face. Home star, you’re never too far. Lighting up our lives wherever we are”
The launch of Aditya-L1 will be a key turning point in the nation’s space exploration journey.
Abhay K, who was speaking at the event, said: “Today is a historic day in India’s space odyssey as India will join a select group of countries that have their own space-based Solar Observatory with the launch of Aditya L1.”

The notion of paying homage to our native star came easily to me because I grew up celebrating Chhath, when the Sun is worshipped at Chhath puja. He continued: “I am from Bihar, where Chhath puja is a religious celebration. Observing the dawn and sunset each day are two of my most treasured memories. The greatest way to preserve a priceless and groundbreaking event like the launch of the Aditya L1 is to write an anthem, and as a poet, I feel fortunate to be able to express my appreciation to Sun in words.
Aditya-L1 is an innovative ISRO project that is focused on understanding the Sun, our closest star. The spacecraft will be positioned in a halo orbit around 1.5 million kilometers from Earth, at the Lagrangian point 1 (L1) of the Sun-Earth system.

A Moon Anthem was just written by the Indian poet-diplomat in anticipation of Chandrayaan-3’s landing on the South Pole of the moon.
On each of the planets in our solar system, Abhay K has written a hymn. His “Earth Anthem” is frequently performed to commemorate Earth Day and World Environment Day every year and has been translated into more than 150 languages.
The Aditya-L1 mission has the potential to make considerable progress in our comprehension of the Sun’s behavior and interactions with Earth and the surrounding environment.
