A Rapido driver was detained by Bengaluru Police on Saturday after a woman reported that he harassed her and participated in “inappropriate behavior”  Athira Purushothaman, the woman, had scheduled a Rapido auto to take her home after attending the Manipur brutality protest at Town Hall Bangalore. She wrote in a series of tweets, “However, numerous auto cancellations led me to opt for a bike instead.”

She claimed that the driver unexpectedly showed up on a different motorcycle and stated that the bike that was registered with Rapido was “under servicing”. She claimed to have used his app to confirm her reservation and start the ride. She claimed that throughout the trip, they arrived at a remote location where no other vehicles were present. Unexpectedly, the driver started riding with one hand while acting inappropriately (masturbating on the bike). I kept quiet during the event out of fear for my safety,” she claimed.

In order to hide the location of her residence, Athira requested that he drop her 200 meters away from her intended location. “As soon as the ride was finished, he began calling and messaging me on WhatsApp nonstop. In order to end the harassment, I had to block his number. She said

Athira asked the bike taxi firm what measures the company was taking for background verification. “Please ensure that people registered with your service can be trusted for a safe travel experience. He keeps calling me from different numbers even now!” she said.

She also shared the screenshot of message by the rider on twitter. She claimed to have reported the incident to the E-City police station in a fresh tweet on Saturday, adding that “they (the police) have arrested the driver.” Since there have been other incidents with Rapido, she declared, “I’m determined to pursue legal action against the driver and demand an investigation into Rapidos’ safety measures.”

Responding to the woman’s accusation, the official handle of Bengaluru police asked for the user’s contact details. In a tweet, the city police wrote, “We have informed to@sjparkps to take necessary action in this regard, Please DM your contact number.”
