The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rainfall, thunderstorms, dust storms, and gusty winds in parts of the National Capital Region as monsoon activity intensifies.
The southwest monsoon continues to progress steadily, bringing widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning to several parts of the country.
The IMD has issued advisories for multiple states, cautioning that isolated areas could experience heavy rain and wind speeds of up to 70 kmph.
The advancing southwest monsoon is driving weather conditions across Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Delhi’s maximum temperature is likely to reach around 39 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Increasing rainfall over the next few days is expected to provide gradual relief from the prevailing heat.
The capital had already experienced a brief change in weather on Monday evening when light showers and isolated thunderstorms affected several areas, including Noida.
The rainfall helped lower temperatures and temporarily eased the oppressive heat and humidity.
Although weather conditions are improving, the IMD has warned that some pockets of Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh could still witness heatwave conditions on Tuesday.
At the same time, the department expects daytime temperatures across northwest India to decline by 4 to 5 degrees Celsius by 4 July as rainfall becomes more widespread.
The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Agra, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur and Muzaffarnagar.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious due to the possibility of lightning and intermittent showers.
