The southwest monsoon is continuing its withdrawal from northern India, with drier conditions expected in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

Parts of southern and northeastern India are likely to continue receiving rainfall.

The monsoon withdrew from Delhi on September 23, and weather conditions are now supporting its further retreat from northern and central parts of the country.

Delhi is expected to experience mostly dry weather in the coming days, with skies ranging from clear to partly cloudy.

Punjab and Haryana are likely to see a reduction in rainfall as the monsoon retreats from the region.

Rainfall activity will remain more prominent across parts of southern India. Kerala and Mahe could receive fairly widespread showers, while isolated heavy rainfall is possible over Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

Several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura, are likely to receive rain during the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department expects overall rainfall activity to remain subdued across much of the country during October, although isolated heavy showers could occur in some areas.

With the southwest monsoon withdrawing, India is gradually transitioning into the post-monsoon season.

Weather systems during this period will likely have a greater influence over the southern peninsula as well as parts of eastern and northeastern India.

Northern and central regions, meanwhile, are likely to experience increasingly dry conditions as the seasonal transition progresses.
