Delhi Police Issues Traffic Alert: What’s Causing Chaos Near Chilla Border?

Traffic between Delhi and Noida was badly affected on Monday after a labour protest in Gautam Buddha Nagar district turned disruptive, leading to road blockades and diversions.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, congestion built up along the Noida Link Road as protesting workers obstructed movement near the Chilla border, slowing vehicles heading towards Noida.

Commuters should avoid the stretch and opt for alternate routes.

Authorities suggested using the DND Flyway via Sarai Kale Khan or taking the NH-24 route through Kondli Bridge to enter Noida from Noida Mod.

The traffic disruption followed escalating tensions in Noida’s industrial areas, where workers from private factories intensified their agitation over wage hikes and better working conditions.

What began as a sit-in protest over the past few days expanded into large gatherings on the streets, particularly in sectors such as Sector 62, worsening the situation.

Police deployed heavily to manage the crowds and restore order. Officials worked to ease the law-and-order situation and the resulting traffic chaos.

The unrest occurred despite recent talks between the administration and worker representatives.

Medha Roopam, District Magistrate, said authorities had already announced several measures, including double overtime pay, weekly rest provisions, and stricter enforcement of timely salary payments. She added that officials have directed companies to ensure wages credited on time, provide payslips, and avoid unauthorised deductions, with penalties for violations.

A control room is in place to address worker complaints.

Officials have appealed to protesters to maintain calm and cooperate as efforts continue to normalise both traffic flow and industrial activity.
