Residents across the Delhi-NCR region may soon see a dip in soaring temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting a short spell of milder weather over the coming days.

Rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are likely to bring some respite from the recent heat, along with a modest improvement in air quality.

On Tuesday, temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain high, ranging between 40°C and 42°C. Light rain and thunderstorms could occur, accompanied by wind speeds reaching up to 50 kmph.

Conditions will likely ease slightly on April 29, with the maximum temperature around 40°C and the minimum near 26°C.

Thunderstorm activity, along with lightning and gusty winds, may take place at different times through the day.

By April 30, a further drop in temperature is anticipated, with daytime highs near 38°C and lows around 24°C.

The sky is likely to stay partly cloudy, with occasional thunder and lightning in isolated pockets.

On May 1, clearer skies are likely to return, although temperatures will still hover near 40°C during the day, with minimum levels around 24°C.

Air quality across the region continues to fluctuate between moderate and poor levels. Several parts of Delhi, including Anand Vihar, Bawana, and the Cantonment area, have recorded ‘poor’ AQI readings, while locations such as Ashok Vihar, Aya Nagar, and Chandni Chowk fall within the ‘moderate’ range.

In neighbouring areas, Greater Noida has also reported poor air quality in zones like Knowledge Park-3 and Knowledge Park-5. Ghaziabad remains more affected, with readings ranging from poor to very poor across locations such as Indirapuram, Loni, Sanjay Nagar, Vasundhara, and Ved Vihar-Loni.

Experts believe that incoming rain and winds could help settle dust and reduce airborne pollutants, offering temporary relief. Residents, however, should remain cautious during thunderstorms and strong winds.

With high temperatures continuing in many parts of the country, authorities have introduced precautionary measures.

Schools in Delhi, Noida, and parts of Uttar Pradesh have revised their schedules to limit exposure to peak afternoon heat. Some regions have announced early summer breaks. Others have ordered temporary closures.
