Residents across Delhi-NCR woke up to pleasant weather on Friday as rain and thunderstorms brought much-needed relief from the intense heat that had gripped the region over the past several days.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), wet and windy conditions are expected to continue across the national capital region till May 31.
The weather department has forecast cloudy skies, intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad as a fresh spell of pre-monsoon activity continues over northern India.
Several parts of Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall on Thursday evening, while dust storms and gusty winds swept through neighbouring NCR cities.
The sudden weather change led to reduced visibility and traffic disruptions in many areas, but also brought significant respite from the scorching temperatures.
The IMD stated that temperatures across the region are likely to decline by around 5 to 7 degrees Celsius after May 29.
The expected fall in temperature is likely to provide sustained relief from the severe heatwave conditions that affected large parts of North India during the past week.
After days of intense heat, thunderstorms, hail and heavy rain brought relief across North India on Thursday evening.
Delhi-NCR witnessed strong winds, lightning and heavy showers, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures.
Weather officials said the system moved from Rajasthan and Haryana towards Delhi-NCR, with dense clouds extending towards Agra and nearby regions.
The changing weather pattern is likely to improve overall conditions in the region and offer temporary relief from the harsh summer heat as pre-monsoon activity strengthens further over the coming days.
