Delhi-NCR Weather: Humidity Persists As IMD Forecasts Rain

Residents of Delhi-NCR continued to experience uncomfortable humidity on Friday as the southwest monsoon edged closer to northern India.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds and cloudy skies across Delhi-NCR and several northern states over the next few days, offering much-needed relief from the prevailing heat.

The IMD has forecast light rain across Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Rajasthan from 25 June to 1 July.

The IMD has issued rain alerts for western Uttar Pradesh, including Noida and Ghaziabad, on 26 June and from 29 June to 1 July.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh will receive light to moderate rain from 26 to 29 June, while Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir will see widespread showers.

The southwest monsoon will strengthen over the next week, bringing thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall to several parts of North India.

Himachal Pradesh will receive heavy rain from 26 to 30 June, while Punjab will see isolated heavy showers on 27 and 28 June.

Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh will witness widespread rainfall, with heavy showers expected on 29 and 30 June.

Rainfall will also intensify across Uttar Pradesh from 27 June to 1 July.

Despite the IMD upgrading Delhi’s weather alert from yellow to orange on Thursday, the city received only limited rainfall.

The ‘feels-like’ temperature touched 44.1°C, while the actual temperature stood at 38°C.

Only Ayanagar and Pitampura recorded rainfall, while Safdarjung received none.

The IMD has retained a yellow alert and forecast light rain, thunderstorms and strong winds over the coming days.

Temperatures will remain between 39°C and 41°C until the weekend before dropping to 35°C–37°C by 1 July as the monsoon strengthens.
