Delhi-NCR Under Yellow Alert As Rain, Thunderstorms Forecast Till Weekend

Delhi-NCR is likely to experience several days of unstable weather, with forecasts indicating periodic rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds until the end of the week.

The anticipated change in weather is likely to ease the impact of the prevailing summer temperatures.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted predominantly cloudy skies over the national capital during the next few days.

Officials have placed Delhi under a yellow alert for Thursday and Friday due to the possibility of light rain, thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and powerful winds.

Wind speeds will likely remain between 40 kmph and 50 kmph, while stronger gusts could briefly reach around 60 kmph.

Although Saturday remains free of any formal warning, forecasters believe the current weather pattern may persist.

The expected rainfall activity is likely to keep daytime temperatures below 40°C for nearly a week.

Meteorologists estimate that maximum temperatures will fluctuate between 36°C and 39°C during the opening days of June. The temperatures are likely to remain lower than the seasonal norm.

Data from Safdarjung, Delhi’s principal weather observatory, showed a maximum temperature of 39.1°C, slightly below average for this time of year. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.4°C, marginally higher than the normal level.

The southwest monsoon will likely make its onset over Kerala, signalling the start of India’s annual monsoon season.

The arrival of the rains plays a vital role in agricultural production, water resources, and overall economic stability.

Forecasts indicate widespread rainfall across Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and several neighbouring regions.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely across several parts of the country.

Multiple weather systems remain active over the Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, and adjoining regions.

Southern India will likely receive the season’s first major monsoon showers.

Northern regions such as Delhi-NCR may witness rising humidity levels and pre-monsoon rainfall in the coming days.
