Large parts of the National Capital Region are facing harsh summer conditions, with a strong heatwave pushing temperatures to extreme levels and affecting daily routines.
According to the India Meteorological Department, daytime temperatures on Monday are expected to climb to around 44°C, while night-time readings may stay close to 27°C.
Hot conditions are likely to persist throughout the day, with dry winds adding to the discomfort.
Weather officials have cautioned that gusty surface winds during the afternoon could worsen the heat, while warm air is expected to continue even after sunset.
Residents have been advised to limit outdoor activity during peak hours and maintain adequate hydration.
A slight shift in weather patterns is anticipated over the next few days. From April 28, temperatures may begin to ease marginally. Light rain, thunderstorms and lightning may offer some respite.
By April 30, cloud cover and intermittent storm activity could bring temperatures down further, with maximum levels dipping to the high 30s.
Early May is expected to see relatively stable conditions, with clearer skies but less extreme heat compared to current levels.
Alongside the rising temperatures, pollution levels continue to be a concern.
Several monitoring stations across Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad have reported air quality in the ‘poor’ to ‘very poor’ range. Some areas are nearing severe levels.
Experts warn that the combination of extreme heat and polluted air can increase health risks. These risks are particularly high for vulnerable groups such as older adults, children and those with breathing-related conditions.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and follow safety advisories during this period.
