Delhi-NCR Sees Rising Temperatures As Air Quality Remains Poor

Delhi-NCR witnessed a rise in temperatures on Saturday, with clear skies and bright sunshine dominating the national Capital.

Daytime temperatures have been gradually climbing, reflecting a slow transition in the seasonal weather pattern, as noted by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Maximum temperatures will reach between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius, while minimums will drop to between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius.

Winds blowing at 15 to 25 kilometres per hour will disperse the early morning haze, gradually revealing sunny skies.

Despite the pleasant daytime weather, air quality across Delhi remains a concern, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 260, placing it in the ‘poor’ category.

Specific readings included Burari at 202, Anand Vihar at 260, Chandni Chowk at 232, DTU at 204, Dwarka Sector-8 at 243, ITO at 223, and Okhla Phase-2 at 228, highlighting the widespread nature of air pollution in the region.

In response to these challenges, the Delhi government has constituted a task force to draft a Bill proposing the creation of a Delhi Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (DUMTA) and a dedicated Delhi Urban Transport Fund (DUTF).

The legislation aims to streamline, integrate, and coordinate the city’s fragmented transport network under a unified governance framework.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s office noted that this initiative represents a significant step toward building a modern, efficient, people-centric, and environmentally sustainable transport system for the national Capital.

These measures are expected to improve both urban mobility and environmental quality, addressing the dual challenges of rising temperatures and poor air quality in Delhi-NCR.
