Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Delhi NCR, bringing much-needed relief from rising temperatures, while the India Meteorological Department forecast more showers and issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms on Friday.
Intermittent rainfall over the past two days has eased the warmer conditions across the city.
Official data shows that the Safdarjung observatory recorded 9.4 mm of rainfall so far this month, bringing it close to the normal average of 12.6 mm.
The recent spell has made March the wettest in the last three years. In comparison, the city last recorded higher rainfall in March 2023, when precipitation reached 50.4 mm.
On Friday morning, multiple weather stations across the national capital recorded rainfall. Safdarjung and Lodhi Road logged 8.2 mm each, while Ridge recorded 8.6 mm. Palam received 6.2 mm, and Ayanagar reported 7.2 mm of rainfall till 8 AM.
Rainfall activity on Thursday varied across different areas. Safdarjung recorded 8.2 mm, while Palam logged 6.2 mm.
Lodhi Road and Ridge reported 8.2 mm and 8.6 mm, respectively, and Ayanagar saw 7.2 mm. Areas such as Pitampura, Pusa, Mayur Vihar, and Janakpuri also experienced light to moderate showers.
The city recorded a maximum temperature of 26.8 degrees Celsius, the lowest so far this month.
The India Meteorological Department earlier issued an orange alert, warning of disruptions, while light rain continued midweek. It has forecast thunderstorms and gusty winds across Delhi NCR, including Noida, Dadri, and Greater Noida, with similar conditions likely through Friday.
Rainfall has also improved air quality across the city, keeping the Air Quality Index in the ‘moderate’ category at most monitoring stations.
