Residents across Delhi NCR are facing intensifying heat, with temperatures already crossing the 40°C mark and expected to climb further in the coming days.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions over the next two days, advising people to take precautions against rising temperatures.

Weather forecasts indicate that maximum temperatures will remain around 41°C on April 20 and 21, with minimum temperatures close to 21°C. Clear skies will likely continue, with no immediate signs of relief.

Conditions are likely to become harsher from April 22, when daytime temperatures could reach 42°C. Similar levels will likely persist through April 23 and 24, accompanied by slightly warmer nights.

Humidity will likely increase, potentially reaching high levels by April 24. This combination of heat and moisture is to make conditions more uncomfortable, particularly during daytime hours.

Authorities have advised residents to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon periods, stay hydrated, and follow basic heat safety measures.

Air quality has also worsened across the region. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board shows that several parts of Delhi have recorded air quality in the ‘poor’ category.

Areas such as Anand Vihar, Ashok Vihar, and Bawana have reported elevated pollution levels, while parts of Noida have also seen deteriorating air conditions.

In Ghaziabad, some locations have entered the ‘very poor’ category, raising additional health concerns.

Experts say weak winds and rising temperatures are contributing to the build-up of pollutants.

People with respiratory issues, along with children and older adults, have been urged to exercise caution.

With both heat and pollution levels rising, officials have warned that the next few days may be challenging for residents, calling for increased awareness and adherence to safety advisories.
