WhatsApp Tests AI-Powered ‘Quick Recap’ To Summarise Unread Messages

WhatsApp is testing an AI-driven Quick Recap feature to help users securely catch up on unread messages across multiple chats.

WhatsApp Tests AI-Powered ‘Quick Recap’ To Summarise Unread Messages

WhatsApp, one of the world’s most popular messaging platforms, is developing a new AI-powered feature named Quick Recap. This upcoming tool will allow users to quickly scan unread messages across multiple chats without opening each conversation individually.

Currently found in WhatsApp’s Android beta version 2.25.21.12, Quick Recap enables users to select up to five conversations and generate brief overviews of the unread messages within them.

This marks a significant enhancement over previous message summary features, which only worked on one chat at a time.

Secure & Private Summarisation

A notable highlight of the feature is its privacy-first approach. WhatsApp will employ Meta’s Private Processing technology to ensure that message data remains completely secure.

Neither Meta nor WhatsApp will have access to the chats or their summaries. All data is processed within a privacy-focused environment and remains end-to-end encrypted.

Importantly, Quick Recap will exclude any messages from chats protected under Advanced Privacy Settings, reaffirming WhatsApp’s commitment to respecting user privacy.

Additionally, the feature will be turned off by default. Users who wish to use it must enable it manually in the settings menu.

Building on Past Tools

This feature builds on earlier iterations of message summarisation tools in WhatsApp.

However, while past tools only provided summaries of individual chats, Quick Recap offers a broader, more efficient overview, making it ideal for users handling multiple active conversations.

Although the feature is still in testing and not yet available to the general public, it is expected to be included in future app updates.

Once rolled out, it could become a valuable tool for professionals, multitaskers, and anyone who regularly engages in numerous WhatsApp chats.

WhatsApp continues to evolve its platform by combining user-centric design with robust privacy protections.

Quick Recap is a clear reflection of this balance, offering convenience through AI while maintaining the platform’s signature end-to-end encryption.

As the testing phase progresses, more users may gain access to this feature in the coming weeks.

For now, its development signals WhatsApp’s ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience through innovation without compromising privacy.
