Switching AI Chatbots? Google Gemini Now Lets You Transfer Chats And Data

Google has introduced a new feature for its AI assistant Gemini, enabling users to transfer chats and personal information from other chatbot platforms. The move forms part of a broader effort by major technology companies to attract users in an increasingly competitive artificial intelligence landscape.

The company unveiled ‘switching tools’ designed to help users migrate existing chatbot data rather than start anew. These include personal preferences, contextual details, and complete chat histories.

Google describes this data as ‘memories’, encompassing information such as interests, relationships, and personal background, and now enables users to easily integrate it into Gemini.

To begin the process, Gemini suggests a prompt that users can input into their current chatbot.

The chatbot then generates a response containing relevant data, which users can copy and paste into Gemini. This allows the AI assistant to quickly understand key personal details and deliver a more tailored experience.

Google noted that once these memories are imported, Gemini can recognise important user-specific information, eliminating the need to rebuild context from scratch.

This significantly reduces the effort required to transition between platforms.

In addition to personal data, users can also transfer entire chat histories by uploading chat logs in a zip file format, a feature supported by many chatbot services.

Gemini then enables users to search through imported conversations, ensuring continuity and easy access to past discussions.

According to Alphabet, Gemini has already surpassed 750 million monthly active users.

The new feature aims to remove barriers to switching platforms, allowing users to carry their digital history with them while exploring new AI tools.
