The Korea Media and Communications Commission (KMCC) issued a formal request to X on Wednesday, urging the platform to prevent illegal activities on Grok and implement safeguards for teenage users.
Measures may include limiting access and enforcing stricter monitoring protocols to shield minors from harmful content.
Under South Korean law, operators of social media platforms must appoint an official responsible for minor protection and submit annual reports on compliance.
KMCC also emphasised that creating, circulating, or storing sexual deepfake content without consent is a criminal offence.
“We intend to support the sound and safe development of new technologies,” KMCC Chairperson Kim Jong-cheol said.
He added that the commission plans to introduce reasonable regulations to prevent the circulation of illegal information and ensure that AI providers actively protect minors.
X Corp, led by Elon Musk, acknowledged that some obscene material on its platform originates from Grok AI.
The company affirmed its commitment to comply with Indian laws and remove all unlawful content promptly.
The Indian government has directed X to review Grok’s technical and governance systems to prevent unlawful content generation.
Grok must enforce strict user policies, including suspension and termination of violators, and ensure immediate removal of offending content without altering evidence.
The KMCC and Indian authorities’ interventions underline growing international focus on AI regulation.
Platforms like X are now required to balance innovation with safety, particularly safeguarding minors from exposure to harmful or illegal AI-generated content.
This action highlights the global priority of establishing robust frameworks for responsible AI use, ensuring that emerging technologies do not compromise user safety, especially that of vulnerable populations.
