Executives from Samsung Electronics and Mistral AI have discussed potential cooperation in the AI memory sector, according to industry sources on Sunday.
Arthur Mensch, co-founder and CEO of Mistral AI, met Jeon Young-hyun, head of Samsung’s device solutions division, at the company’s Hwaseong campus on Thursday. The discussions focused on collaboration in AI chip supply chains and related technologies.
Mensch was in South Korea last week during French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to Seoul for talks with President Lee Jae Myung, Yonhap news agency reported.
Mistral AI, often considered Europe’s counterpart to OpenAI, is working to secure a stable semiconductor supply to support its large language model, Mistral Large, and expand its AI infrastructure. The visit to Samsung’s semiconductor facility is seen as part of this strategy.
An industry official noted that following recent discussions between Samsung executives and Lisa Su, Mistral AI is also pursuing talks with Samsung to ensure reliable chip supply amid tight memory market conditions.
Broader AI Collaboration Efforts
Last month, Lisa Su, CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, held meetings with South Korean government officials, Samsung Electronics, and Upstage to strengthen AI partnerships in the region.
She met with Im Moon-young, vice chair of the National AI Strategy Committee, and Ha Jung-woo, presidential secretary for AI policy and future planning, where discussions centered on cooperation in the AI sector.
South Korean officials highlighted policies aimed at positioning the country among the world’s top three AI powerhouses, while exploring synergies between domestic firms and AMD. Both sides agreed to continue collaborating to build an open, global AI ecosystem.
