Research Revealed: AI Cracks Passwords In Less Than 60 Seconds; Know How To Stay Protected

The use of AI has increased these days with ChatGPT on the scene.  It was prevalent earlier as well but these days the public can use it directly. However, it was earlier on the back end of the software.

Many Cyber security organizations have warned humans on multiple levels that the same can be very harmful to humankind in later years. Still, tech companies are still working to get better AI.  In a recent study, an astonishing revelation has come up. It says that AI can actually crack passwords with relative ease.

AI cracks the common passwords in less than 60 seconds

According to a study by Home Security Heroes, almost 51% of all the common passwords can be easily cracked by AI in Less than 60 seconds that is one minute. In addition to this, 81 per cent of the passwords take less than a for AI to break down.

The company took the help of artificially intelligent software known as PassGAN. It ran through around 15,680,000 passwords. After that, it produced the results for all of them.

These passwords are safer

You should set a password with more than 18 characters. The research says that such passwords are, “generally safe against AI password crackers, as it takes PassGAN at least 10 months to crack number-only passwords.”

The study also stated that it can take as long as 6 quintillion years for AI to crack the passcodes that contain any kind of symbol, numbers, lower case letters and upper case letters.

Tips to keep your password safe

According to the study, the easiest password to crack will be the one which has a single digit as the password.  Also, the report exposed, “A ten-letter password with only lowercase letters would take an hour to hack, while a ten-letter mixed-case password would take four weeks.” With such a strong password, it can take up to 5 years for the decipher to crack it.

In addition to this, use at least 15 characters and have at least two letters, numbers, and symbols in the password. Users must avoid obvious kind of patterns, even if they have all the required character lengths and types.
