OpenAI Unveils ‘ChatGPT Health’ To Help Users Make Sense Of Medical Data

OpenAI has announced the launch of ChatGPT Health, a new health-focused experience designed to help users better understand and manage their medical information by securely connecting medical records and wellness applications.

Developed in collaboration with more than 260 physicians across 60 countries, ChatGPT Health aims to support individuals in navigating everyday health and wellness questions.

OpenAI says the feature lets users link personal health data, grounding conversations in their own information and making responses more relevant and practical.

The company said the initiative responds to the growing reliance on ChatGPT for health-related queries, noting that over 230 million people worldwide ask health and wellness questions on the platform every week.

OpenAI has clarified that ChatGPT Health does not diagnose conditions or provide treatment; instead, it helps users identify health patterns, understand test results, and prepare for discussions with healthcare professionals.

The tool focuses on long-term health awareness rather than isolated episodes of illness, encouraging users to take a more active role in managing their wellbeing while continuing to rely on qualified clinicians for medical care.

Linking Records and Wellness Apps

With ChatGPT Health, users can securely connect medical records and popular wellness platforms such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal.

The feature can assist individuals in interpreting lab reports, preparing questions ahead of doctor appointments, exploring diet and fitness approaches, and understanding healthcare insurance trade-offs based on personal health patterns.

OpenAI has highlighted additional safeguards to protect sensitive health information.

Users can delete conversations from OpenAI’s systems within 30 days, and OpenAI has trained the model not to retain personal data from chats.

The system encrypts all conversations and uploaded files at rest, and users can further strengthen security by enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA).

ChatGPT Health is initially being rolled out to a small group of early users to refine the experience. Eligibility currently includes users on Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.

In the coming weeks, OpenAI plans to expand access on the web and iOS platforms. However, some medical record integrations and certain apps will remain limited to the United States, and Apple Health connectivity will require an iOS device.

The launch marks a significant step in the growing intersection of artificial intelligence and personal healthcare management.
