OpenAI on Tuesday announced a special offer for Indian users, granting free access to ChatGPT Go for one year starting November 4. The initiative coincides with OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange event in Bengaluru, highlighting the company’s growing focus on the Indian market.
ChatGPT Go, OpenAI’s premium subscription plan, provides users with advanced features powered by the latest GPT-5 model.
Subscribers enjoy higher message limits, enhanced image generation capabilities, extended memory, and the ability to upload more files and images.
The plan was first introduced in India in August 2025, following user demand for a more affordable way to access ChatGPT’s advanced tools. Within a month, the number of paid users in India more than doubled, prompting OpenAI to expand ChatGPT Go to nearly 90 countries.
India as a Key Market
India has emerged as ChatGPT’s second-largest market, showing rapid growth in daily users, including students, professionals, and developers. Millions of users already leverage ChatGPT to learn new skills, enhance creativity, and build innovative projects.
The new one-year free offer underscores OpenAI’s ‘India-first’ strategy and aligns with the government’s IndiaAI Mission, which seeks to expand AI access and promote innovation. OpenAI is also collaborating with educational platforms, civil society groups, and government initiatives to make AI tools more inclusive and widely accessible.
Existing ChatGPT Go subscribers in India will also benefit from the free 12-month plan, with additional details to be announced soon.
