With the latest update, Google has integrated a bookmarks bar into Chrome for Android, allowing users on larger screens to navigate saved websites more efficiently.
The bar appears just beneath the Omnibox, Chrome’s address bar, making frequently visited sites easily accessible without disrupting the browsing experience.
The bookmarks bar shows favicons alongside website names for rapid recognition.
Bookmarks stored in folders are also accessible, enabling users to explore their saved links without leaving the current page.
For cases where bookmarks exceed available space, a right-facing chevron provides options to access folders and the ‘All bookmarks’ full-screen interface, offering comprehensive bookmark management.
To activate the bookmarks bar, users must open Settings, navigate to Appearance, and select the ‘Show bookmarks bar’ option.
The feature is disabled by default on smaller devices to maintain a clean, uncluttered interface.
This update is part of Chrome for Android version 146, reflecting Google’s effort to align mobile browsing with desktop functionality. It particularly benefits users of tablets and foldable smartphones, while standard smartphone users may need to adjust settings to access the bar.
