Can you use ChatGPT while driving? With Apple CarPlay support, drivers can now access voice-only AI assistance safely and hands-free on iOS 26.4 devices.

Can You Use ChatGPT While Driving? It’s Now On Apple CarPlay

ChatGPT is now available on Apple CarPlay, allowing users to access the AI assistant directly from their vehicle dashboard.

Devices running iOS 26.4 or later support the feature, and users can install the latest ChatGPT app after Apple enabled voice-based conversational apps within CarPlay.

The integration prioritises safety by relying entirely on voice interaction.

Users can speak commands to ChatGPT and receive spoken responses, eliminating the need to interact with their phone screens while driving.

This hands-free functionality aligns with Apple’s efforts to minimise distractions and enhance driver safety.

ChatGPT on CarPlay currently operates through voice-only support, meaning responses are delivered audibly rather than displayed as text.

Basic on-screen controls are available, including options to mute or end a conversation, as well as a list of recent voice interactions. Full text responses are not visible on the interface.

To begin using the feature, users must manually open the ChatGPT app from the CarPlay dashboard, as the system does not yet support a wake word for activation. This requires drivers to tap the app before initiating a conversation.

The rollout marks one of the first major AI chatbot integrations into Apple’s in-car ecosystem.

By enabling controlled, voice-first interaction, Apple aims to balance innovation with safety, making AI assistance more accessible during everyday driving.
