Supreme Court

SC has issued a directive to the State Bank of India (SBI), emphasizing the importance of full disclosure regarding electoral bonds.

The information is included in the data dump that the Election Commission released on the orders of the Supreme Court, which includes information on 523 recognized and unrecognized political parties.

The data obtained from political parties was deposited at the Supreme Court without the opening of sealed covers.

The Supreme Court had mandated the EC to disclose details of donors, donation amounts, and recipients following its ruling declaring the electoral bonds scheme unconstitutional.

SC pulled up the Ajit Pawar camp for allegedly exploiting the name and images of the NCP founder Sharad Pawar in their campaigning efforts.

In the electoral bonds case, the head of the bar association pleaded with Ms. Murmu to request a presidential reference so that the entire process could be repeated and full justice could be served.

The apex court also directed SBI to submit details of electoral bonds purchased since April 12, 2019, by March 6.

Madras High Court dismissed the proceedings against a 28-year-old man who was accused of downloading child porn content on his mobile phone.

A bench of Justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta, however, ordered expunging certain remarks and observations made against the state government and the police in the March 5 order of the high court.

The bench said," SBI is directed to disclose the details by the close of business hours of March 12."
