The total number of demat accounts reached 185.3 million by the end of the year, reflecting growing investor participation in the market.

After a robust 2023, foreign investors signicantly scaled back their investments in Indian equities in 2024, with net inflows amounting to over Rs 5,000 crore, as elevated domestic valuations.

Market experts stated on Saturday that as India enters "Amritkaal," the FPI community would play a significant role in placing it as the third largest economy in the world.

FPIs remain robust in Indian markets, investing Rs 7,962 crore in equities and Rs 6,304 crore in debt this month, per NSDL data and market analysts.

V.K. Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services, said the FPIs were aggressive buyers in the market in May having invested Rs 43,838 crore through the stock market and primary market put together.
