India will join the US, China, and the former Soviet Union as the fourth nation to perfect the technology of soft-landing on the lunar surface if the mission is a success.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission was supposed to land on the Moon's south pole, however, due to the recent failure of Russia's Luna-25 mission, India now has the chance to do it first.
