World Athletics Championships
Neeraj Chopra, the Olympic champion, made history on Sunday in the men’s javelin final in Budapest by becoming the first Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships with a long throw of 88.17 meters. With Kishore Jena (84.77m) and DP Manu (84.14m) capturing the fifth and sixth slots, respectively, three Indians finished in the top eight, marking another first.
Three Indian athletes placed in the top eight of an event at the World Championships for the first time ever. Parul Chaudhary, meanwhile, managed a time of 9:15.31 seconds and placed 11th in the women’s 3000-metre steeplechase. Thus, she has guaranteed herself a spot at the 2023 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Who won what at the World Athletics Championships?
In the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase, Parul Chaudhary placed 11th, but more significantly, she managed a time of 9:15.31 seconds. That gives her a new national record and ensures her qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. The men’s 4x400m relay team of Anas, Amoj, Ajmal, and Rajesh finished an unbelievable sixth despite setting an Asian record in the heats and becoming the first team from their nation to compete in the final.

They were able to finish in 2:59.92 seconds. Remember that during the qualifying round, they made history by running this race in under three minutes, and they have since repeated the feat? Even though Parul and the relay team’s accomplishments may not make the news, today’s results are still good news for Indian athletics.
