Indian cricket superstar Virat Kohli turns 38 on Thursday, November 5. As he celebrates his birthday, the former India captain has named his 43-run innings against England in the 2013 Champions Trophy final as his ‘top ODI innings’.
Kohli revealed his selection in a special video shared by Star Sports. The celebrated batter continues to represent India in ODI cricket, the only international format he currently plays.
The broadcaster presented Kohli with several memorable performances from his career.
These included his 183 against Pakistan in the 2012 Asia Cup, 133 against Sri Lanka during the 2012 Commonwealth Bank Series and 85 against Australia in the 2023 World Cup.
Kohli delivered the memorable innings during the rain-affected final at Edgbaston, where India and England played a 20-over contest.
India lost wickets at regular intervals. Kohli arrived at 19/1 and shared a 41-run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 31.
India subsequently slipped to 66/5. However, Kohli continued to anchor the innings and scored 43 runs from 34 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six.
His contribution helped India reach 129/7 in 20 overs. Ravindra Jadeja also played an important role with his 33-run contribution.
India defended the total successfully and defeated England by five runs to win the Champions Trophy.
During the selection process, Kohli initially preferred his 35-run contribution in the 2011 World Cup final over his unbeaten 133 against Sri Lanka.
He also considered his 107 against Pakistan in the 2015 ODI World Cup before making his final choice.
Ultimately, Kohli selected his crucial 43-run innings against England as his finest ODI performance.
