Unprecedented Collapse: India’s Nightmare as Six Wickets Fall for 0 Runs in 11 Balls Against South Africa in 2nd Test

In a shocking turn of events during the second Test in Cape Town, Team India experienced a rapid collapse, losing six wickets in a mere 11 balls without adding any runs to their total in the first innings. The downfall began with Lungi Ngidi dismissing KL Rahul for 9 in the 34th over, and Ngidi continued his lethal spell by taking two more wickets in the same over, removing Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, both without contributing to the scoreboard.

Kagiso Rabada compounded India’s misery by claiming two additional wickets in the following over, dismissing Virat Kohli for 46 and orchestrating the run-out of Mohammed Siraj. Rabada then sealed India’s innings by dismissing Prasidh Krishna with an outside edge that Aiden Markram safely caught at slip.

The collapse unfolded unexpectedly, considering the initial resilience shown by Kohli and Rahul during the final session. Kohli, in particular, exhibited determination, reaching 46 with an array of boundaries. However, challenging pitch conditions marked by uneven bounce posed significant challenges for the Indian team.

Despite the tough conditions, the nature of the collapse was almost unthinkable given the batting prowess of the Indian lineup. Rahul and Jadeja fell victim to bouncing deliveries, with Marco Jansen taking a spectacular diving catch at slips to dismiss Jadeja. Bumrah suffered a similar fate, giving away his wicket to a bouncing delivery.

Kohli, after a valiant effort, succumbed to an outside edge caught brilliantly by Aiden Markram at second slip. Following Kohli’s departure, the subsequent dismissals unfolded rapidly. The collapse concluded in the same over, with six Indian batters—Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna—all dismissed for a duck, while Mukesh Kumar remained unbeaten on 0.

This collapse followed the bizarre events earlier in the day, where the hosts were bowled out for a mere 55 in the first innings. Mohammed Siraj played a pivotal role with a six-wicket haul, supported by Bumrah and Mukesh Kumar contributing with two wickets each. The Indian seamers showcased precision, running through the home team’s batting line-up in 23.2 overs, resulting in South Africa’s lowest Test total since 1932, and their lowest score in Tests against India.
