Australia opener Travis Head delivered a stunning performance, smashing 30 runs off a single over from Sam Curran as part of a blazing 23-ball 59, leading his team to a 28-run victory over England in Southampton late Wednesday night.
Head’s explosive batting included three fours and three towering sixes during the fifth over of Australia’s innings. His innings propelled Australia to a commanding total of 179 runs at The Rose Bowl. In response, England struggled and were bowled out for just 151.
Head’s rapid 50 came within the Powerplay, and he forged a crucial 86-run partnership with fellow opener Matt Short, who contributed 41. At one point, Australia appeared poised to surpass 200 runs, but Liam Livingstone’s economical spell (3-22) kept the total within reach.

Australian bowlers then took control. Veteran seamer Josh Hazlewood (2/32) made early inroads with the new ball, while Adam Zampa (2/20) and Sean Abbott (3/28) ensured England’s batting lineup faltered.
This win gives Australia a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the next game scheduled in Cardiff on Friday.
Head’s 30 runs off Curran’s over ties an Australian men’s T20I record for the most runs scored in a single over, matching previous records set by Ricky Ponting, Daniel Christian, and Mitch Marsh.
Samoa’s Darius Visser set the international record for the most runs from a single T20I over last month by blasting 39 runs against Vanuatu. Additionally, players have scored 36 runs in an over on five occasions, including Yuvraj Singh’s legendary performance in the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
