The Tennis Premier League (TPL), India’s only professional tennis league, will run from 9 to 14 December at the Gujarat University Tennis Stadium in Ahmedabad. TPL enters its seventh edition this year.
For the first time, it moves outside Maharashtra. Thus, it joins the elite list of leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL), Pro Kabaddi League (PKL), and Indian Super League (ISL).
This season brings international players ranked between 30 and 50 in ATP. It also features India’s Grand Slam winner Rohan Bopanna.
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) supports the event. Meanwhile, tennis icons Leander Paes, Sania Mirza, and Mahesh Bhupathi back the league.
Bollywood stars Rakul Preet Singh and Sonali Bendre also lend their support.
Ahmedabad Prepares for World-Class Action
The eight-franchise format follows the unique 25-point system. Hence, matches remain fast-paced and engaging for fans in India and abroad.
Ahmedabad, now a growing sporting hub, offers the perfect setting.
Over the past year, TPL deepened its partnership with the Gujarat State Tennis Association. It hosted tournaments for young players and provided Race to Gold Scholarships.
Moreover, the TPL App expanded grassroots participation across the state.
Kunal Thakkur, TPL co-founder, said, “We are delighted to bring TPL to Gujarat for the very first time. The city’s energy, infrastructure, and passion for sports make it an ideal host. Season 7 will deliver world-class tennis action.”
Mrunal Jain, the other co-founder, added, “The Gujarat University Tennis Stadium offers excellent facilities. Expanding into new markets like Ahmedabad gives fans across India a closer experience of top-tier tennis.”
Shrimal Bhatt, Hon Secretary of the Gujarat State Tennis Association, remarked, “For the first time in Gujarat’s history, ATP-ranked players between 30 and 50 are coming here. This will give a major boost to tennis in the state.”
