The India national cricket team sealed their place in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating the England national cricket team in the semi-final.
The Men in Blue will now face the New Zealand national cricket team in the championship match on Sunday at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium.
The venue carries emotional significance for Indian supporters. It was the same ground where India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final.
Despite that painful memory, India’s overall record at the stadium remains impressive.
Since 2021, India has played ten T20 internationals at the Ahmedabad venue. The team has secured seven victories while losing only three matches.
These results highlight India’s familiarity and success at the world’s largest cricket stadium.
India recorded several convincing wins there. The team defeated strong opponents, including England, the Netherlands, South Africa and New Zealand.
One of the most dominant performances came in 2023 when India overwhelmed New Zealand by 168 runs.
The stadium also witnessed India’s successful home series against England in 2021. During that five-match T20 series, India won three matches played at the Ahmedabad ground, strengthening their reputation at the venue.
More recently, however, the ground has produced mixed results for the hosts. India secured a comfortable 30-run victory over South Africa in late 2025.
Yet, the Proteas responded emphatically during the T20 World Cup fixture in February. South Africa defeated India by 72 runs, denting their campaign momentum.
Consequently, India has registered one victory and one defeat at this venue during the current tournament.
India enters the final as defending champions and hosts, which gives them a slight advantage.
Their recent bilateral successes also boost confidence ahead of the decisive clash.
Nevertheless, historical statistics favour New Zealand in this competition. The Black Caps have never lost to India in T20 World Cup encounters.
So far, six matches have taken place at the Ahmedabad stadium in the ongoing tournament.
Teams batting first have won three contests, while chasing sides have claimed two victories. One game ended in a tie, demonstrating the balanced nature of the pitch.
