In the final showdown against South Africa at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, India defended a total of 176 runs and took four quick wickets to lift the T20 World Cup for the second time.

India edged out South Africa by seven runs in a heart-stopping final to claim the Twenty20 World Cup at Kensington Oval.

Opting to bat on a dry surface, the 2007 champions India overcame a top-order collapse to post a competitive 176-7. Virat Kohli (76) struck his first fifty of this World Cup, and Axar Patel contributed a crucial 47 to help India to a healthy total.

Anrich Nortje and Keshav Maharaj each claimed two wickets for South Africa.

The Proteas experienced a top-order collapse of their own, but Quinton de Kock (39) and Tristan Stubbs (31) steadied their chase. Heinrich Klaasen (52) then launched a spectacular counter-attack, but India’s impeccable death-overs bowling restricted South Africa to 169-8.
