Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) showcased an aggressive batting approach to reach 235/4 in their 20 overs against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Match 49 of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head once again provided a rapid beginning, putting the opposition under immediate pressure.
Abhishek set the tone with a towering six early in his innings, while both batters capitalised on the lack of swing and movement. The pair accelerated quickly, taking the score to 48 without loss in just three overs and crossing fifty in only 3.2 overs.
Lockie Ferguson broke the opening stand by dismissing Abhishek soon after the batter hit him for a boundary. Despite that breakthrough, SRH maintained their scoring momentum and finished the powerplay strongly at 79/1.
Yuzvendra Chahal later dismissed Travis Head with a well-disguised delivery, offering PBKS a chance to recover. Repeated errors in the field prevented them from gaining control of the innings.
Ishan Kishan took full advantage of the opportunities handed to him, having been dropped twice and surviving a missed stumping. He went on to compile a brisk 55 from 32 balls, shifting gears effectively during his stay at the crease.
The left-hander accelerated in style by striking three successive sixes off Vijaykumar Vyshak. He brought up his half-century in quick time and kept SRH’s scoring rate high.
After Kishan’s departure, Heinrich Klaasen continued the onslaught, maintaining the intensity in the latter stages. The South African batter produced another impactful knock, scoring 69 runs with a mix of precision and power.
Having also been given an early reprieve, Klaasen capitalised fully and reached his fifty in 32 deliveries, extending his consistent run in the tournament.
SRH crossed the 200-run mark in the closing overs, with Punjab’s bowlers struggling to contain the flow of runs. Marco Jansen endured a particularly expensive spell, while Nitish Kumar Reddy added valuable late contributions.
This innings marked SRH’s eighth total above 200 this season, matching a record for the most 200-plus scores in a single T20 competition.
Sunrisers Hyderabad: 235/4 in 20 overs (Heinrich Klaasen 69, Ishan Kishan 55).
Punjab Kings Bowling: Yuzvendra Chahal 1/32.
