Australia elected to field first after winning the toss against South Africa in the second Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday.

The match, scheduled from October 18 to 22, forms part of Australia’s three-Test tour of South Africa.

The visitors entered the contest with a 1-0 series lead after securing a 214-run victory in the opening Test in Durban.

Australia will look to build on that advantage, while South Africa will aim to level the series on home soil.

Rain and weather interruptions affected the opening session on Day 1, disrupting the progress of play.

The interruptions created an uncertain start to the contest at the Gqeberha venue.

The weather conditions remained a key factor during the early stages, with the teams awaiting opportunities to make progress in the match.

Australia opted for an all-pace bowling attack and left experienced spinner Nathan Lyon out of the playing XI.

The selection indicates the visitors’ preference for a pace-focused combination for the second Test.

South Africa, however, made two changes to their line-up. Kagiso Rabada returned after recovering from injury, strengthening the hosts’ pace-bowling options.

Matthew Breetzke came into the side, replacing Tristan Stubbs.

Rabada’s return provides South Africa with an important addition as they seek to challenge Australia’s batting line-up and recover from their defeat in Durban.

With Australia holding a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series, the second Test carries significant importance for both teams.

A victory for the visitors would put them in a strong position to secure the series, while a South African win would bring the contest level ahead of the final match.
