At just 14 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young boy from Tajpur, a small village in Bihar’s Samastipur district, has shaken the cricketing world.
Playing for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, Vaibhav smashed a century off just 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans, becoming the youngest player to score a hundred in IPL history.
But behind this record-breaking achievement lies a story of immense family sacrifice and relentless struggle.
Family’s Unwavering Support Behind The Success
After his historic knock, an emotional Vaibhav credited his parents for their sacrifices.
“Whatever I am today is because of my mother and father. My mother used to sleep for only 3 hours, and my father gave up everything for me. God truly helps those who work hard,” he said.
Vaibhav shared that his mother would go to bed at 11 p.m. and wake up at 2 AM every day to prepare his meals for training.
Despite their financial hardships, his father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, quit his job to support Vaibhav’s dream of becoming a cricketer.
Meanwhile, his elder brother took over household responsibilities to keep the family going.
IPL Sensation Vaibhav’s Determined Journey
Born on March 27, 2011, Vaibhav picked up a cricket bat at the age of 4. His father, who once aspired to play cricket professionally himself, saw his own dream come alive through his son.
Coach Manish Ojha revealed that Vaibhav started training at his coaching centre in Patna at the age of 9.
Despite living 100 km away in Samastipur, Vaibhav would travel every alternate day, reaching the academy by 7:30 AM, training rigorously all day, and returning home in the evening.
His efforts paid off. By the age of 12, Vaibhav represented Bihar in the U-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy, and in 2024, he became the fourth youngest player to debut in the Ranji Trophy.
IPL Record-Breaking Innings
In just his third IPL match, Vaibhav lit up the stadium with a blistering 101 off 35 balls, hitting 11 sixes and 7 fours against Gujarat Titans.
His knock powered the Rajasthan Royals to chase down a 210-run target with 25 balls to spare.
“Scoring a century in the IPL was a dream. I don’t play with fear, I just play,” said Vaibhav after the match.
His performance captured the attention of the cricketing world. Tech giant Sundar Pichai, industrialist Anand Mahindra, and several others praised the teenager’s talent.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also congratulated Vaibhav and announced a ₹10 lakh award from the state government. “Vaibhav has made Bihar proud,” added CM Nitish Kumar.
From a humble background to the bright lights of the IPL, Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s journey stands as a testament to dreams fueled by sacrifice, hard work, and unbreakable family support.
