A light-hearted exchange between India’s Sarfaraz Khan and England’s spinner Shoaib Bashir has gone viral on social media. The incident occurred during the 103rd over of England’s first innings, right after Ollie Robinson’s dismissal, when Bashir came out to bat. As Bashir took his guard, Sarfaraz playfully teased him, questioning his Hindi language skills. While Sarfaraz joked that Bashir didn’t understand Hindi, the England player surprised him with a witty response.
Sarfaraz Khan: “Isko Hindi bhi nahi aati hai, badhiya chalo.” (He doesn’t understand Hindi.)
Shoaib Bashir: “Thodi thodi aati hain Hindi.” (I know a bit of Hindi.)
Bashir’s brief stay at the crease lasted only two balls as he was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja in the same over that saw Robinson’s dismissal.
Jadeja finished with figures of 4/67 as India bowled England out for 353.
At lunch, India were 34 for one, with skipper Rohit Sharma (2) falling early to James Anderson’s bowling. Yashasvi Jaiswal (27 not out) and Shubman Gill (4 not out) were at the crease during the break, with India trailing by 319 runs.
Earlier, Joe Root remained unbeaten on 122 as England posted 353 in their first innings. Root and Ollie Robinson completed their century stand for the eighth wicket, with Robinson scoring his maiden Test half-century (58 off 96).
Aside from Jadeja, debutant Akash Deep (3/83) impressed on the first day, while Mohammed Siraj (2/78) picked up two wickets.
India currently leads the five-match series 2-1.
