Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured a convincing 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians in Match 20 of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium, following a dominant batting display and controlled bowling effort.

A rapid innings from Phil Salt, who struck 78 off 36 balls, set the tone early. He was well supported by Rajat Patidar, who produced a blistering 53 from just 20 deliveries. Although Virat Kohli contributed a more measured 50, the trio powered Bengaluru to an imposing 240/4 in their 20 overs.

Salt dominated the early overs with aggressive strokeplay, while Kohli anchored the innings. Patidar later accelerated sharply, reaching his half-century in only 16 balls. A late unbeaten 34 from Tim David ensured the innings finished strongly.

In reply, Mumbai began positively, reaching 62 without loss in the power play. Rohit Sharma’s retirement hurt on 19 due to a hamstring issue disrupted their momentum. Ryan Rickelton had earlier impressed with 37, but his dismissal triggered a slowdown.

A double strike from Suyash Sharma removed Rickelton and Tilak Varma cheaply, putting Mumbai under pressure. Suryakumar Yadav added 33 but failed to convert his start into a match-defining innings.

Captain Hardik Pandya kept the chase alive briefly with a quick 40, though his dismissal left Mumbai requiring 93 from the final five overs. Sherfane Rutherford then produced a late surge, smashing an unbeaten 71 with nine sixes, but the target proved out of reach as Mumbai finished on 222/5.

The match also saw several interruptions due to injuries and reviews, which extended the duration of play.

With this result, Bengaluru recorded their third win in four matches, moving to six points and climbing to third in the standings, behind Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. Mumbai, on the other hand, suffered its third consecutive defeat.
